My Elevator Speech
Since opening my practice here in North Carolina, I have been attending a lot of networking events where I get a chance to get up and tell people about my firm and what makes me different from my competition. This is hard thing to do in 60 seconds or less. People call these elevator speeches.
Well here is my elevator blog:
My name is Scott Coyle and I opened up a CPA firm shortly after moving to North Carolina. I have worked for small CPA firms and a large firm. I was happiest when I ran my own firm for close to 7 years in Vermont. I closed that firm sometime after meeting my wife and moved to New Jersey. In New Jersey I went to work for a large CPA firm that dealt with only high net worth individuals. (multi millionaires) I enjoyed the people I worked with but realized why I opened my own firm. I liked meeting with my clients and getting to know them. When working for CPA firms most of time the only people who met with clients were the partners. The partners would try to make the clients feel special and that they were preparing their tax returns personally but usually that return wound up in a pile on some staff accountant's desk that was working 60 or more hours per week. It was like an assembly line. I didn't become a CPA to work on an assembly line with very little connection with my clients or the outside world for that matter for months on end.
So, I guess what sets me apart from other tax preparers is that I am the person you meet when you bring in your tax info and I'm also the person who will prepare your tax return. I find I work a lot harder on a tax return after I actually get to sit down and meet my clients. When I was working on the assembly line I felt like I was just doing homework. I had no face to associate with the tax return. I find it a challenge to see how much money I can save my clients on their taxes. I have a feeling of great satisfaction knowing I saved my client money. My firm is open year round unlike these franchise tax preparers. I still don't know why anyone would go to a place that offers Refund Anticipation Loans or any other type of gimmicks to get your money back quicker. I offer free efiling with all the returns I prepare. Most people get their money back within 2 weeks or less. Anybody offering these gimmicks to get your money qucker isn't looking out for your best interest. If you come in to my firm you can be sure we are looking out for your best interest.
